What are stocks under 1 cent?
Most penny stocks under 1 cent are trading on the Over-The-Counter or OTC market, this is exactly what you will find with this OTC penny stocks list.
You will not likely find any stocks under 1 cent trading on the NASDAQ or NYSE exchanges because any company whose stock is trading under $1 for 30 consecutive trading days is facing delisting risks from these exchanges.
Public companies listed on regular exchanges are subject to stricter rules imposed by the FTC. They are required to publish their financial statements in a timely manner. The OTC market, on the other hand, has fewer restrictions and OTC stocks are much more volatile and prone to manipulations because of trading volume and company size.
One big player may drive up the price of a security on the OTC market and then dump it when the retail traders get on board. It would not be possible or at least much harder for any institution to single-handedly drive up the price of a stock listed on the NYSE, or NASDAQ.
Are stocks under 1 cent worth trading?
For most people, the answer would be no. While stocks under 1 cent are much easier to double, triple, or even quadruple in a short time than stocks with a higher price, it is just as easy for low-price stocks to go to zero, in which case the trade loses all his money.
Stocks under 1 cent are extremely risky. Beginners should stay away from these types of stocks. Trading stocks under 1 cent should be reserved for the more experienced traders who already have experience in trading, understand the risks, have a trading method or system that has worked in their favor, and can control their emotions which is essential in penny stocks trading.
